A Proven Roadmap to Getting the Life You Want - Reflections of a Digital Nomad

My husband and I have been working towards becoming digital nomads for the last decade, and this option finally became more of a possibility after I quit my office tied position in late 2019. We decided our first adventure would be to visit a very good friend of ours in Colombia, and we were giddy when we bought our tickets knowing that it would be the start of many adventures...and it was, but not the adventures we anticipated.

We arrived in Colombia in March 1, 2020 and were so excited to see Stefan, his brewery and where he lived in Buga. The first weekend we journeyed out of town to go see some sites, and we took a trek up to experience a harvest at his lime farm. By the next weekend the whole world began shutting down due to Covid.

Obviously, our first attempt at being digital nomads was a bit of a bust. Over the last few years, we have had many adventures, but it wasn't until just a couple of weeks ago that we truly finished tying up loose ends and readying ourselves for a second attempt at this life. We were going to tempt fate by returning to Colombia again for our first trip, when my husband got word from his work that they needed him to go to Bengaluru, India. The beautiful thing about all of our preparation was that we could just pivot and say, "YES!" and go.

When I look back at all of the small and large choices we have made over the years to make this dream a reality, I can't help but be proud of not only our determination, but our accomplishments. We created freedom for ourselves. We created the ability to say, "YES!" to any opportunity. We believed we could get to this point in our lives and here we are...

Since we have arrived in India, I have been pinching myself almost everyday. Not just because this is a country I have ALWAYS wanted to glimpse, but because we have finally made our dreams a reality. How did we do this?

  1. We envisioned what we wanted, clearly, concisely, and in full detail.

  2. We kept that vision clear in our minds as we were faced with choices that would either support or detract from our goal, and chose accordingly.

  3. We partnered with our fears, and collected research and knowledge so we could quiet them.

  4. We learned to identify the obstacles and slowly and methodically remove them until there were none left.

  5. Finally, we decided, "Now is the time," and we took the leap.

There is every possibility that another pandemic could hit any day, that some new strain of Covid will shut the world down again, or that some other catastrophe may occur. We could have let any one of these reasons or others stop our attempt at this life, but we did not. I'm not saying that what we are doing or our choices are "right" for everyone, but they are the right ones for us.

What I AM saying is to follow your dreams. Do not let your fears talk you out of what you want, because life is short, and fears that whisper in your ear can be transformed to internal leaps of celebratory joy by feeding them facts instead of assumptions. Our daily choices, both small and large, are what make dreams a reality...and the most important choice you can make is to just say, "YES!" to today being the day to start your journey.

What do you want most in life? What is keeping you from moving forward to take the first step? I would be honored to be a part of your journey to passionately stepping into the life you want. Schedule a free consultation to see if we can work together to get you where you want to go.
